Energy Development Company Limited (EDCL) is an Indian company primarily focused on generating and selling electricity through hydro and wind power sources. The company's operations are organized into three distinct segments: Generating, Contract, and Trading. The Generating Division is responsible for producing and supplying power to various electricity boards. It currently operates 15 MW of renewable energy capacity and has an additional 270 MW of hydroelectric projects in different stages of development. Its operational assets include the 9 MW and 6 MW Harangi hydroelectric power plants in Kodagu district, Karnataka, along with two 1.5 MW wind projects located in Hassan and Chitradurga, also in Karnataka. Furthermore, this division manages the 7 MW Ullunkal and 15 MW Karikayam hydroelectric projects in Kerala. This segment is also actively involved in the execution of various hydroelectric initiatives within Arunachal Pradesh. The Contract Division specializes in developing energy and infrastructure projects for other developers. It provides a comprehensive suite of services, including engineering, consultancy, and project management for hydroelectric power plants. Its offerings also extend to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, third-party power plant operations and maintenance (O&M), and expert consultancy for the rehabilitation, renovation, modernization, and capacity enhancement of aging hydro power facilities. Additionally, this division is engaged in cogeneration activities, which involve the combined production of heat and electricity from a single fuel source, such as bagasse. Lastly, the Trading Division is involved in the commerce of various commodities, including power generation equipment and metals.
