A U.S. court has ruled that Meta did not violate antitrust laws by buying Instagram and WhatsApp, Reuters<a href="https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/boards-policy-regulation/meta-defeats-us-antitrust-case-over-instagram-whatsapp-2025-11-18/"> reports</a>. The Federal Trade Commission had sought to have the company required to sell or split up these services, believing it would have brought competition back to the social media market. Meta insisted that buying stronger and more innovative players is a normal business practice to develop new features faster. The company also pointed out that the regulator was ignoring real competition from TikTok, YouTube and Apple's services, which were putting serious pressure on the market.
