Its activities are organized across three primary segments: Exploration & Production (E&P), Trading, and Corporate functions. The company primarily extracts offshore crude oil and natural gas from Chinese waters, specifically in the Bohai Sea, Western South China Sea, Eastern South China Sea, and East China Sea regions. Furthermore, CNOOC Limited maintains interests in various oil and gas assets distributed across Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Oceania, and Europe. As of December 31, 2021, its net proved reserves were approximately 5.73 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Beyond its primary operations, the company also participates in bond issuance, the marketing and sale of petroleum and natural gas, and the surface exploration and commercialization of coalbed methane. With a global presence, CNOOC Limited conducts operations in countries such as China, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Argentina, Indonesia, Uganda, Iraq, Brazil, Guyana, Russia, and Australia, alongside other international ventures. Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Central, Hong Kong, CNOOC Limited functions as a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation.
