Shares of Marex Group, a broker that provides institutional investors with access to commodity exchanges and stocks, soared nearly 19% on August 12—reaching an all-time high. Its revenue and profits came in significantly higher than Wall Street’s forecasts. The company benefited from market volatility.

What the company announced

Marex's revenue in the second quarter rose 39% year-over-year to $695.8 million. Wall Street had expected it to be $625.3 million, according to Investor’s Business Daily.

Net income more than doubled, reaching $155.3 million, compared with a consensus estimate of $103 million. Earnings per share rose 61% to $1.65, while analysts had predicted $1.36.

What drove the growth

As a broker and market maker, Marex benefited significantly from market volatility, explains Investor’s Business Daily. Specifically, securities trading generated 68% more revenue in the second quarter than in the same period last year. This helped offset a 30% decline in revenue from energy trading. In the second quarter of 2025, the energy segment’s performance was stronger due to import tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration, Marex explained.

According to The Motley Fool, active and targeted asset acquisitions played a significant role in improving the company’s results. This year alone, the company has completed six deals, with two more currently in progress. Specifically, in August, Marex announced plans to acquire Brainchild Capital Investments, a Dutch clearing firm, to gain access to derivatives markets and the physical electricity and natural gas markets. A month earlier, news broke of a deal with the clearing house Bright Point International to expand its business in Asia.

What Analysts Are Saying

Marex went public on the Nasdaq in 2024, and since then its stock price has soared 265%. However, Wall Street believes the company’s stock has further upside potential. All seven analysts covering Marex unanimously recommend buying its stock. The average price target is $81.90—15% above the closing price on August 12.
